Database Browser Android Tutorial

This tutorial will show you how to use the different database browsing features offered by RevTwo In-App Support.

  1. Open your RevTwoSample app in Android Studio and run it on your device or simulator.  When the app opens, you will see a list of tutorials.  Select the “SQLite Database” tutorial.
  2. While the app is running, log into and go to the Connected Apps tab.  You will see your device in the list.  Click the Call button to connect to your app.
  3. After it connects, you will see some information about your device, and a list of widgets along the side.  Click on sample.db as a database browser widget.   You will see the tables in the database.  Clicking on these tables will display the rows, so you can see exactly what data your app has.
  4. If you look in, you will see that it is empty except for a text view.  This is because the database browsing does not require any additional code.  However, you do need to add your database to your app definition on the website.  For the sample app, we have added a database for you called sample.db
  5. Log into and go to the models tab.  Click on the RevTwoSample app.
  6. The enabled widgets are listed on the right, you will see sample.db is listed as a database widget.
  7. Click on “Edit Model” in the top right.  Scroll down to the Database section.  This is where you manage the databases for your app.  To add another one, you just type the name of the db and click “Add Database.”
  8. We built the sample app with two databases included.  Type in catalog.db and hit “Add Database.”
  9. Hit “Save Model” to update your model with the new database.  You will now see two databases listed in your app’s widgets.
  10. Go back to the Developer tab and click on your device to connect to your app.
  11. After it connects, you will see the widget for the database you just added.  Click on the widget and browse the data for catalog.db.
